Yamaha Announces New APX600 and CPX600 Acoustic Electric Guitars

Yamaha recently announced the APX600 and CPX600 Acoustic Electric Guitars, instruments that build on the excellent craftsmanship, beautiful design, rich sounds and easy playability of the best-selling APX500II and CPX500III.

These guitars are ideal for country, rock and blues, and are suitable for players ranging from beginners to professionals. Acoustic electric guitars have overtaken conventional acoustic guitars in popularity, and the improved APX and CPX models respond to the trend toward smaller, smaller-scale instruments.

The new guitars succeed the best-selling APX500III and its companion CPX500III; the APX600 continues the company’s line of slim-body guitars, while the CPX600 offers a mid-jumbo profile. While the new models retain the scalloped bracing and premium electronics of the 500III generation, key new features include new finishes for both models and an upgrade to a true abalone rosette in the APX600 for superior acoustic tone. Additionally, the scale length of the APX model has been shortened from 25 9/16″ to 25″ for greater playability.

Because the guitars are made in Yamaha owned-and-operated facilities, they adhere to the same standards and practices as the company’s high-end handcrafted guitars, at a price that competitors can’t match.

The slim-bodied APX600 features a spruce top, oriental mahogany back and sides, die-cast tuners and Yamaha’s exclusive System55T preamp, 1-way piezo pickup with EQ 3 bands with adjustable mids and an integrated tuner. The medium-jumbo profile (Compass) CPX600 is the full-bodied sibling of the APX600, and also offers a spruce top; eastern mahogany back and sides; die-cast tuners and System55T preamp.

“Guitarists today prefer acoustic electric instruments that have a smaller profile to make them more portable and versatile in both amateur and professional environments,” said Dennis Webster, Product Marketing Manager, Yamaha Guitars. “The APX600 and CPX600 are the perfect answer, and these latest models are designed to meet the needs of demanding gamers.”

Price and availability

The Yamaha APX600 (MSRP: $470) and CPX600 (MSRP: $575) acoustic electric guitars will ship January 2018. Both models are available in Old Violin Sunburst and Black; the APX600 is also available in Vintage White and Oriental Blue Burst, and the CPX600 in Root Beer and Vintage Tint.
