Jason Mraz, Tom DeLonge and Local Artists Design Fender Guitars for Auction to Benefit San Diego Nonprofit – NBC 7 San Diego

Bidding begins Wednesday for 32 custom Fender guitars designed by local artists and world-famous musicians.

ArtReach’s Guitar Art Auction will support visual arts education for children in schools and community centers throughout San Diego County.

Proceeds from the auction directly benefit ArtReach’s free, low-cost programs for young people who would otherwise not have access to visual arts opportunities.

Jason Mraz and Tom DeLonge are among the participants in this year’s art auction.

Singer-songwriter Jason Mraz designed a Fender Dreadnought acoustic guitar titled “Use Your Superpowers For Good.” Tom DeLonge of American rock band Angels and Airwaves has designed a Gretsch “Rat Rod” electromagnetic guitar titled “To The Stars”.

Other participants in the Guitar Art Auction include several high-profile artists who have been featured at San Diego Art Walk, a supporting partner of ArtReach.

Painting was only part of the craftsmanship of these special guitars. Once designed, the guitars were skillfully and professionally reassembled by James Hood guitar repair, located in Oceanside and Escondido. Their talented team has worked to ensure that each guitar is a perfectly finished, playable work of art.

The guitars will be exhibited during the 37and annual Mission Fed ArtWalk in San Diego’s historic Little Italy neighborhood Saturday, October 2 and Sunday, October 3.
