Artificially aged guitars will always be a talking point for guitarists, and one player’s mojo can be another’s annoyance. But when done right, the Relic can give you vintage class without the sky-high prices of 50s and 60s originals. And Gibson’s Murphy Lab become masters of the art with Custom Shop electric guitars, but are they now extending their skills to acoustics as well? A new and unexpected revelation suggests so.

Brand president and guitar collector Cesar Gueikian is already in shape to reveal future launches to players early, and his recent Instagram (opens in a new tab) The stories post shows not one but two older Gibson acoustic guitar models with what appears to be a Hummingbird and a J-45.

The patina plot begins to thicken with the J45’s tag being clearly visible; it is a Custom Shop model. A zoom in on the Hummingbird’s interior label also reveals that this is also a Custom Shop guitar.

Cosmetically, both guitars appear to have their finishes checked, and if this is the first glimpse of a new chapter in Custom Shop history, it’s exciting to see. We look forward to hearing more.
