Charvel Specs Two Highly Shreddable Signature Electric Guitars for Guthrie Govan and Rick Graham

0

Charvel unveiled a pair of signature guitars for Guthrie Govan and Rick Graham, Govan opting for a San Dimas in 3-Tone Sunburst and Graham a DK24 in Celeste. Both models are made in Japan and are classic Charvel, taking the Stratocaster format and giving it a faster spec.

The Rick Graham Signature MJ DK24 2PT CM has a compact basswood Dinky body, which is about 7/8 the size of a Strat. It has a bolt-on caramelized maple neck with graphite reinforcement and a soft satin finish. The fingerboard is a real highway, with rolled edges, 24 stainless steel frets, a compound radius of 12-16″ and 4mm cream dot inlays.

Graham partnered with Bare Knuckle for the pickups, with their custom humbucker in the bridge position and custom single coils in the middle and neck. The pickups are controlled by a five-way reed switch and two Strat-style skirt knobs for tone and volume.

As you’d expect from a 2021 Charvel, there’s a whole host of player-friendly features, like the heel-mounted truss rod tuning wheel, Gotoh die-cast locking tuners, as well as a scalloped lower back and sculpted heel. to improve access to the upper frets. And Graham’s signature electric guitar has a built-in Gotoh Custom 510 tremolo.

The Guthrie Govan Signature MJ San Dimas SD24 CM, meanwhile, has a slightly larger San Dimas body. Here, Charvel tops basswood with ash, with this 3-Tone Sunburst finish showing plenty of grain.

It shares many of the same specifications as the Graham model – the 25.5-inch scale, fingerboard dimensions and rolled edges, caramelized maple, heel-mounted truss rod tuning wheel, the Luminlay side dots, Gotoh hardware, but the English and prog titan shred features a set of custom Charvel pickups arranged in an HSH configuration, with a five-way mic blade switch, mini two-way toggle for simulation single coil and volume and tone controls.

What’s really cool is that the Luminlay is picked up on the dome style tone controls. No more feeling in the dark. The Govan San Dimas features a Charvel recessed locking tremolo bridge system with pop-in tremolo arm and brass block.

Both models will ship from September and are available for pre-order now. The Guthrie Govan Signature MJ San Dimas SD24 CM is priced at £1,999, while the Rick Graham Signature MJ DK24 2PT CM is priced at £2,099.
